We would like to take a moment today to congratulate Sigma Kappa on 143 years of sisterhood!

Sigma Kappa was founded on this day, November 9th 1874, by five lovely women. Mary Caffrey Low (first female student admitted), Elizabeth Gorham Hoag, Ida Fuller, Frances Mann and Louise Helen Coburn attended Colby College, in Waterville, Maine. Colby College was the first college in the New England area to allow women too attend on an equal basis with men students.

These women came together and created an organization that over 143 years would lead to more than 123 collegiate chapters of 168,000+ women. To say their ideals of “One Heart, One Way” were met, is an understatement!

Happy Founder’s Day, Alpha Epsilon Phi! Here at Ollie + Ivy we wish you a wonderful day filled with sisterhood.

Alpha Epsilon Phi was founded on October 24th, 1909 at Barnard College in Morningside Heights, NYC by seven Jewish women; Helen Phillips Lipman, Ida Beck Carlin, Rose Gerstein Smolin, Augustina “Tina” Hess Solomon, Lee Reiss Liebert, Rose Salmowitz Marvin, and Stella Strauss Sinsheimer. These women established such an amazing organization that focuses on “Many Hearts, One Purpose.” That saying is so true, even to this day, with over 100 chapters and 80,000 members initiated over the 108 years!

Hey, Sigma Kappa Ladies! We have a new design ready for you here at Ollie + Ivy! This design is called Mary Low’s Floral Bouquet!

This design was created with your lovely founder in mind. While researching Mary, we were shocked to learn that she attended Colby College in Maine where she was the FIRST woman to be admitted in 1871! To the left is a photo of Mary & the other four founders of Sigma Kappa.

Wait til you hear what we just learned!” Ok…. now if you know this show (admittedly, I was obsessed) Blair MUST be in a headband, school uniform is the dress code (dig up your old high school uniform & alter!), and a cell phone to get all the gossip is a requirement!

5.) C A T . D O G >>This was just too cute to pass up! Plus, who doesn’t love a good homage to ol’ Nickelodeon (when it was still cool!).
